The Interactive portion of the SXSW conference in Austin
concludes today.

Affectionally known as "Spring Break for geeks", the conference
attracts tens of thousands (literally) of techies and startups
to Austin every March.

This year a couple domain brands took advantage of the concentrated
audience to pitch their brands.

Its presence resulted in a nice profile on CNET by Paul
Sloan. (Sloan was the author of the famous Business 2.0 article
about domain names and Kevin Ham. His domain articles also
helped Demand Media founder Richard Rosenblatt come up with
the idea for his business.)

VeriSign was also on hand to promote .net.

Although there were also representatives of .me attending, I'm surprised
at how few domain name firms us SXSW as a springboard for their
brands.

Every person who attends SXSW is involved with domain names
or web sites in some way.

True, getting attention at SXSW is expensive. And you have to
plan really far ahead to sponsor events (or even get a hotel
room, for that matter). But I think it's worth it.
