Of course domain owners like to think their domains will never be
less important. But the framework for my article was the back of
a Bissinger's catalog. The phone number and web address for the
company is off to the side, competing for space with a twitter icon,
Facebook logo, and a QR code for viewing the company's web site
on a smart phone.

Just 5 years ago the catalog would have only featured a phone number
and domain name.

The way people navigate and spend time on the web is changing.
Ultimately, domain names still matter a lot. But how people
navigate to web sites and interact with brands is continually
adjusting.
